Joan C. Powers, 80, passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at Plantation Village Nursing Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Clint Burns officiating. Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Services and burial have been entrusted to Kincannon Funeral Home.
Joan Close was born Sept. 10, 1933 to W.I. and Ima (Nowlin) Close in Jerusalem, Ark. She graduated with the class of 1951 from Bolton High School in Alexandria, La., where she also attended Alexandria Business College. Joan and Mack A. Powers Sr. were united in marriage on Oct. 3, 1953 in Alexandria, La., to this union two children were born. Joan worked as a civil service secretary for the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1968. She later worked as office manager at M.D. Anderson Medical Center from 1977 to 1991. Joan was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, most recently the Fairfield, Texas congregation. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and loved spending time with family.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mack; a sister, L. Ruth Close; and a brother, Benton Close.
She is survived by her daughter, Robin P. Pagel of Altus; a son, Mack A. Powers and wife Melinda of Altus; five grandchildren, Stephanie Powers of Altus, Adam Powers and wife Cerise of Lubbock, Texas, Michael Powers and wife Amanda of Lubbock, Laura Powers of Lawton, and Katie Pagel,of Lubbock; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Alice Dove of Pasadena, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
