Betty Jean (Richardson) Young Obituary
Betty Jean Richardson Young, 86, longtime resident of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Friday, May 22, 2015 at Bingham Memorial Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Blackfoot from causes incident to age.
Betty was born at home on December 30, 1928 in Hamer, Idaho the fifth child of James Henry Richardson and Florence Matilda Holtom Richardson.
She attended school in Hamer, Idaho where she enjoyed participating in basketball and other activities.
Betty met Leland Dale Young and quickly fell in love and they were married a month later in Dillon, Montana on October 20, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 10, 1983. They made their first home in Hamer, Idaho and later lived in Roberts, Riverside, Firth and recently in Blackfoot.
Betty was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a faithful visiting teacher and a primary teacher.
She worked for many of the local potato processing plants, including Idaho Potato Growers, French's, Western Farmers and Basic American Foods. Betty also worked for Hopkins, wrapping meat. Through all these experiences, she made many lifelong friends. She enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, snowmobiling and gardening. But mostly she enjoyed vacationing with her family.
Betty is survived by her husband, Leland Dale Young of Blackfoot; children, Rex (Bobbi Jo) Young, Randy (Linda) Young, Marva (Brent) Williams; and son-in-law, Shyrl Wheeler all of Blackfoot; 14 grandchildren; and 35 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Dalean Wheeler; infant son, Larry; grandson, Clayton Young; and siblings, Lorenzo Richardson, Jessie Yearsley, Eldon Richardson, Jack Richardson, Buster Richardson and Lola Staley.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May, 26, 2015 at Riverside LDS Chapel, 7 N 700 W in Blackfoot. Family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
