Betty McMullin Obituary
Betty Gene (Berry) McMullin was born August 31, 1947 to Eugene & Jean (Van Sice) Berry. She was the third child in the family of five girls and one boy. She was preceded in death by both parents and sisters Mary Webb, Sally Collard, Susan Martin, and Jane Berry. She is survived by her brother, Doug Berry of Houston.
She graduated from Blackfoot High School in Blackfoot, Idaho and then from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology. She received her Master of Science in Speech Pathology from Idaho State University.
Betty married her childhood best friend, Brent McMullin, in 1968. They eloped before Brent was shipped to Vietnam for his 3rd tour of duty. They recently celebrated an early 50th anniversary with family on the Oregon Coast, near where they spent their honeymoon.
She worked in public school systems in California, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon as a Speech Pathologist. She was blessed to adore her profession while also making close, dear friends with other SLPs and educators.
Betty and Brent proudly parented two adored children – Christian McMullin of Beaverton and Dr. Carrie McMullin (Jason Horne) of Seattle. Then along came two beauties – granddaughters Cecily & Elodie Horne.
In addition to her work, Betty enjoyed giving her time to several organizations over her lifetime, including Hospice, Meals on Wheels, Gladstone School Board, Sherie Hildreth Ovarian Cancer Foundation Race, substitute teaching, various school committees, and Clackamas County Healthy Start Program.
Betty exuded warmth and generosity. She placed great value on education, and had a hand in the success of many students. She was a voracious reader. She touched many lives and she will be sorely missed.
Betty's wish is that you all know how much you meant to her. "Every person I met contributed to my being able to live a charmed life, full of love, friendship, and happiness."
A celebration of life is being planned for August. You can check www.celebratebetty.com for details. Donations in Betty's name may be made to any cancer care facility of your choosing.
