DeVon M. Kofoed Obituary
DeVon M Kofoed, 90, passed away peacefully at Bingham Memorial Hospital in the early morning hours of Sept. 24, 2017.  He  was born Aug. 12, 1927 to Willard Christian Kofoed and Hazel Luey Monson Kofoed. He was the third child and first son in a family of five children.  He was raised in Winder, Idaho where he attended grade school. 
He graduated from Preston High School  where he was active in FFA serving as State President his senior year.
On a blind date, he met Ila Jean Hendricks. They dated until he left on an LDS mission to the Japanese people in Hawaii. ?DeVon and Ila  were sealed in the Idaho Falls temple on Nov. 1, 1949. They would have celebrated 68 years of marriage this November.
He was a cheese maker in Cache Valley where Daryl was born in 1952. Shortly after, they moved to Blackfoot, Idaho where he continued working for the cheese plant here. Clair Jay was born in 1956 and Karen completed the family in 1960. 
Dad decided to pursue a career as an electrician about the time of Karen's birth. He became a journeyman electrician and member of IBEW local 449. He retired in 1989. Through his years of employment, he made many lifelong friends.
DeVon loved to spend time on the lake either fishing or waterskiing with family and friends. He loved to hike in the Sawtooth Mountains. He also loved to ride horses from a very young age and continued this love until about age 85. He loved to read.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many  positions: ward clerk, Sunday School President, Young men's organization  and family history center to name a few.  He loved to serve others and help any one in need. 
He sang bass in the church choir. He was a member of the Falls Men Barbershop Chorus for many years. He sang in a barbershop quartet with three of his neighbors. 
He is survived by his wife, Ila Jean of Blackfoot; son, Daryl (Vickie) of Shelley: son, Clair Jay of Blackfoot and daughter, Karen (Randy) Reed of Pingree , one brother, Arvin (Deone) Kofoed of Moses Lake, WA, brother-in-law, Vance (Diane) Hendricks of Rexburg and sister-in-law, Grace (Chuck) Irby of Redlands, Calif. He is loved and remembered by 12 grandchildren, 35  great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.
DeVon was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters: LaVina, Marva and Leah;  and grand-daughter in law, Mirella Preston Reed.
The family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Avenue,  Blackfoot, Idaho.  Funeral will be at
11 am on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Blackfoot  LDS 2nd/6th Ward Building, 660 Teton Road, Blackfoot, Idaho.  Family will meet with friends one hour prior to funeral service at the church.
