Filadelphio "Fil" Chavez Jr, 68, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2016 at Bingham Memorial Hospital.|
Fil was born July 17, 1948 in San Jose, California to Phil Chavez Sr and Lydia Hernandez. He was raised by his mother, Lydia in Blackfoot, Idaho.
He served his country in the United States Army in Germany. He was drafted in April 1969 and honorably discharged in April of 1972.
He worked as an INL Area Security Manager for 38 years. In his free time he enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping, pool, bowling, coaching baseball and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson.
Fil was a member of the Catholic church and attended St. Margaret's Church in Blackfoot.
He is survived by his children, Dave (Trina) Chavez of Washington, Tom (Candace) Chavez of Blackfoot, Idaho and Tera Chavez (Robb) Young of Blackfoot, Idaho; partner, Kathy Baxter VanEps; step children, Jerry (Debra) Wallace of Blackfoot, Idaho, John (Blythe) VanEps of North Dakota and Kodi (Brock) Egan of Dubois, Idaho; brother, Richard Chavez; sisters, Reva Scruggs and Louanna (Barry) Maheras of Pocatello, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Dakota Chavez, Taby Chavez, Madison Chavez, Cade Adakai, BoDee Chavez, Chavis Young and Major Chavez; and one great grandson, Dreyson Maddox Adakai.
He is preceded in death by his father, Phil Chavez Sr; mother, Lydia Hernandez Chavez; and in-laws, Basil and Marie Gough.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 and for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
