Jerry was born on August 24, 1936 in Alicia, Arkansas to Lloyd Smith and Vernie Groves. He joined the service at an early age. He loved serving his country and took pride in his service in the United States Army.

Jerry was an avid business owner in Blackfoot where he owned and operated several bars and restaurants. He also worked as the custodian at the Mountain View Middle School.
In 1989 he married Marilyn Hultz. The two of them have resided in Blackfoot ever since and have enjoyed spending time together through the years.
Jerry enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends. He loved his motorcycles and wrenching on anything and everything that required a mechanic's touch. Above all else he loved spending time with his grandkids. Birthday parties and the 4th of July were always favorite activities of his to attend. His dogs also had a special place in his heart.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Smith of Blackfoot; his children, Jerry (Dena) Smith of Idaho Falls, John (Samara) Roberts of Blackfoot, Chi Ann (Kent) Baum of Ashton, Harold (Michelle) Cox of Blackfoot, Kristie Cox (Mark Swem) of Indiana and Rona (David) Stech of Blackfoot; his sisters, Mazie Miles of Boise, Jackie Meadows of Arkansas and Pat (Boyd) Nugent of American Falls; his brothers, Jim (Sandy) Smith of Caldwell and Lloyd Smith of Pocatello; his 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nadine Price; and his brother, Winford Smith.
