Linda Jackson Shelton Obituary
Linda Jackson Shelton of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away on Dec. 14, 2016 at her home after a 15-year battle with Parkinson's disease.
Linda was born Feb. 14 1943 in Blackfoot to Clarence "Fizz" Jackson and Wilma Martin Jackson. She was the third of six children. Linda was always outgoing within her community and school activities. Linda graduated from Snake River High School in 1961.
After high school, Linda worked in Sun Valley Idaho for three months prior to attending Brigham Young University where she studied exercise sciences.
After attending BYU, she moved to Hawaii; earning her way to attend the Church Collage of Hawaii (now known as Brigham Young University-Hawaii). After a short time of living in San Francisco, she loved the islands so dearly that she moved back to Hawaii.
Linda wanted to travel the world; she went to Tahiti where she worked her way around the small islands. Her love of traveling continued to grow so she accepted a job as a flight attendant for Braniff Airlines. She often would take leaves of absence to continue her worldly travels.
Linda spent time in Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji Islands, Thailand, Mexico, climbed to the top of Machu Piccu in Peru and traveled to every state in the United States; except Alaska.
As a flight attendant, she met Larry Miles Shelton, from Clarksville, Tennessee. After college, Larry went to Hawaii to visit Linda and ended up staying for three years. They left Hawaii and were married on Aug. 30, 1975 in Blackfoot.
They then moved to Nashville where they lived for six years. Larry joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they were sealed to their daughter in the Washington D.C. LDS Temple in 1981. Gavin and Ashley joined their family and were sealed as a forever family together in the Idaho Falls LDS temple in May 1999.
Linda was a devoted wife and mother. She received great joy in raising her children and loved being a grandmother. Linda was an active member of the LDS church and served in numerous callings in Primary, Young Women and Relief Society.
Linda is survived by her husband, Larry; and children; Kiana Beus (Bryan) of Inkom, Gavin (Ashley) Shelton of Pocatello and Ashley (Michael) Griffiths of Pocatello.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, as well as three of her sisters, and one brother; Lyla (Gene) Hoskins of Twin Falls, Shana (Ted) Mickelson of Tetonia Idaho, Kerry (Blaine) Benson of Blackfoot, and Mark (Bonnie) Jackson of Pingree.
She is proceeded in death by her sister JoAnn (Dan) Polatis and both of her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday Dec. 19 at the Thomas LDS Church. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18 at the Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment will follow at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com
