Maurice E. "Rusty" Ireland Obituary
Maurice E. "Rusty" Ireland, 85, of Blackfoot, Idaho, passed away Thursday,  Oct. 5, 2017, at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello, Idaho.
Rusty was born on Dec. 24, 1931, in Bridgeport, Neb., the middle child of Forest E. "Frosty" Ireland and Edna Lucille Ireland. He attended schools in Bridgeport and graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1949.
After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as an aircraft engine maintenance mechanic and instructor during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in 1957.
Following his discharge, he returned to long haul trucking, work that he had started with his father as a teenager. He delivered equipment for Spudnik in Blackfoot for 28 years, and remained in trucking until 2003 - logging well over a million accident-free miles.
Next to his family, Rusty loved his career and stood out as a distinguished professional; he often took his daughters with him on the road and created many lasting memories.
On May 20, 1966, he married Doris LaRae Jackman in Blackfoot. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They resided for brief periods in Utah and Texas, before settling in the Rose area of Blackfoot until 2015.
Rusty then resided at the veteran's home due to health reasons, and LaRae moved to Idaho Falls to be near their children. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with an open house on May 20, 2016, at the Rose LDS chapel. They had two daughters, Amy Rae and Annie, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and enjoyed serving in many different callings over the years.
Survivors include his wife, LaRae Ireland of Idaho Falls; daughters, Amy Arizola (Michael) and Annie Gardner, both of Idaho Falls; grandchildren, Connor Christian (Chyna) of Pocatello, Michael Jose "MJ" Arizola and Brisa Arizola, both of Idaho Falls; one great-grandchild, Raelynn Christian of Pocatello; a brother, Bill Ireland (Marilyn) of Alliance, Neb.; and a sister, Ellen Ireland of Alliance.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ireland of Bridgeport.
Services will be Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Rose LDS Chapel. The family will meet with friends Friday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, and Saturday for one hour prior to services at the chapel.
Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.hawkerfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello.
