Rebecca Parrish Miskin Obituary
Rebecca Parrish Miskin, 88, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Becky was born in Blackfoot, Idaho, on March 20, 1929. Her parents were George Washington Parrish and Elizabeth May Wood Parrish. She was the youngest in a family of eleven children, and was the last surviving.
She had a happy childhood, growing up in Blackfoot.  Her family had a logging yard and ice house and farmed. At the age of 9, tragedy struck their family when her mother died. Then only six years later, her father passed away. She had the blessing of older sisters and brothers who loved and nurtured her in her parents' absence.
She met the love of her life, Richard B. Miskin, while attending Ricks College. They were married September 13, 1951, in the Logan Temple. Their first three children were born in Dearborn, Michigan, where they lived while he was attending school studying engineering. Five more children were born to them after they returned to their native Idaho. They lived in Ucon and Ammon.
Becky taught 2nd grade at Riverside Elementary School near Blackfoot, and at Ucon Elementary. She was known for her talent of drama and writing, and wrote many plays, skits and comedy routines. She also wrote poetry.
She had very busy years as mother to eight children, and continued to be involved in their lives and her grandchildren's activities over her lifetime. She supported the growth of the family manufacturing business.
Becky loved nature. She knew the names of every bird, flower, and tree. She loved artwork and enjoyed painting. Family and friends remember her enthusiastically playing games and singing songs with them.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many organizations as a gifted teacher and leader. Becky served a mission for the LDS Church from 1994-1995 with her husband in Peoria, Illinois. During their retirement years they traveled overseas to China, Egypt, South America, New Zealand, Italy, and places where their kids and grandkids have lived, including Alaska, Japan and Costa Rica. They enjoyed living in Melbourne Beach, Florida, during the cold winter months. There they made wonderful friends and served in the church and in the Orlando LDS Temple.
She is survived by eight children: DeAnn (Dave) Mower of Germantown, TN; Gail (Larry) Manion of Colleyville, TX; Jane (Kenneth) Brown of Idaho Falls, ID; Mary Lou (David) Reynolds of Melbourne Beach, FL; Michelle (Scott) Chase of Valdez, AK; Mark (Selena) Miskin of Rexburg, ID; David (Lori) Miskin of Rockland, ID; and Gina Harper of Idaho Falls, ID. She has 35 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2013, and her brothers, Fred, Parks, Daniel, and Marion Parrish, sisters, Ruth Park, Ruby Jensen, Mary Swenson, Edna Obershaw, Mae Merkley, and Afton Hansen, daughter-in-law, Beth McKague Miskin and son-in-law, Lewis Dwan Harper.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Ammon LDS Foothills Stake Center, 3934 East 49th South. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery.
