Thomas LaVere John Obituary
Thomas LaVere John, 100, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at his home.
Thomas was born January 2, 1916 in Portage, Utah to Henry Thomas John and Ruth Hoskins.  
On June 29, 1930 he married Zola Sorensen, they were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.  
He worked as a carpenter most all of his life and belonged to a local carpenters union. He started working at a very young age to support his family when his father was injured. He also worked as a firefighter, worked as a farmer and cared for bum lambs. In his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He went moose hunting at the age of 90 and got one! He also enjoyed gardening.
Thomas was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a strong belief in his Heavenly Father.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas "Tommy" (Bonnie) John of Pocatello and David (Keri) John of Blackfoot, Idaho; daughters, Linda Steffler of Lava, Idaho and Karolyn (John) Taberna of Blackfoot; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and numerous great great grandchildren.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ruth; wife, Zola; son, Ronald "Ronnie" John, son-in-law, David Steffler, and nine siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016 and for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Shelley Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
