Verla Wright Fackrell, reunited with her husband and sweetheart of more than 70 years, on Nov. 11, 2016. She had her family and loved ones surrounding her at her passing. She was 88 years old.|
Verla was born to Elmer and Florence Wright on December 14, 1927 in Blackfoot, Idaho and has resided there all of her life except for two years, which were spent in Rexburg, Idaho. She attended Blackfoot schools. She had 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
She married Vern Reese Fackrell on Oct. 18, 1944, in Dillon, Montana. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Oct. 18, 1961. They were to have four daughters and a son. Verla's primary focus was that of being homemaker, wife and mother. She spent time helping Vern when possible as owners of restaurants in Blackfoot; Vern & Verla's Cafe and the Barrel Drive-In. She later worked at Vern's side for her church. Vern continued to work until Verla could retire.
She has served in the LDS church Young Women's Presidency and Primary organizations. She was also a visiting teacher until later in her life. She especially loved working with the children, where she served as a teacher and also chorister. Singing Primary children songs to and with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a favorite activity.
She enjoyed crocheting, handwork, camping and traveling with family, shopping with her daughters, family parties, and just spending time with family. Among her favorite memories was a trip to Japan with her sweetheart to visit with their son, David, and family. She also went on a family cruise to Mexico which she spoke of often.
She is survived by her daughters: Idona Hawker, Pocatello; Ila (Michael) Hale, Logan, Utah; Starla (Steve) Serr of Blackfoot; Lorna (Richard) Fawcett, Blackfoot; David Glenn Fackrell, of Santa Rosa, California; a sister, Glenna Whitten; 23 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by Vern, her husband; her parents; brothers, Elmer and Clayton Wright; and sisters, Doris Ockerman and Melba Cowden.
The family would like to thank Access Homecare and Hospice for hours spent, especially the loving care given by Colby, Sara and Amy. Also appreciated is the years of care given by Dr. Kurt McKinlay.
Funeral Services will be held at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Avenue, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16.
