Wayne Rogers, 79, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Memorial services will be at 10:00 am Friday at First Baptist Church sanctuary, 1208 S. Tyler St. with Dr. Howard Batson officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery in the Garden of the Four Chaplains. Wayne was born December 14, 1938, to William Clarence (Preach) and Nannie Lou Rogers in Leonard, TX. Wayne joined First Baptist Church 73 years ago when he was six years old. Over the years, he was active in many church ministries and served as a deacon for almost 50 years. He was a member of the Carter Kelly Sunday School Class. He graduated from Amarillo High School and West Texas State College. Wayne was a self-employed accountant working until the day he died. He previously worked for H.V. Robertson and Tom Upchurch Law Firm. Wayne was a member and served as president of the South Amarillo Kiwanis Club. He founded the association for Woodlands Condominiums in Red River, NM, and served as the association president since 1984. He was an officer of the AHS Alumni Association. Wayne was a member of the Model A Club of America. He enjoyed "putting" in parades and around town in his 1929 Model A. He was preceded in death by his parents and many uncles and aunts. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lana Sue Rogers; a daughter, Keri Mize and husband Chuck of Huntsville; a sister, Velda Rickstrew and husband Emerson of Colleyville and their children Scott and Christy; many cousins; and his beloved Yorkie, Benji. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, 1208 S.
