Sewell, Michael R. - Piedmont  
Memorial graveside service for Michael R. Sewell, 72, will be Sunday, May 29, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Highland Cemetery with Kelly Garner officiating and Thompson Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Sewell passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Melva Sewell, of Piedmont; one daughter, Monique Sewell, of Piedmont; and a special niece, Tamara Arevian, of Long Beach, California. Mr. Sewell was a native and lifelong resident of Piedmont. He was a graduate of Piedmont High School and Gadsden State Community College, was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and Piedmont City Schools and enjoyed playing golf. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Beuna Sewell, and brother, Joe Sewell. Funeral service for Mrs. Margaret Eloise Sims, 84, was held Monday, May 23, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Lakeview Baptist with the Rev. Darrell Paulk and the Rev. Chris Spurlin officiating with burial followed at Forestlawn Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday at Lakeview Baptist Church from 12-1. Mrs. Sims passed peacefully Friday, May 20, 2016 at Shelby Baptist in Birmingham. Mrs. Sims is survived by her daughters, Judy (Denny) Besser and Janet (Mark) Weems; sister, Ludy Cruse; sister-in-law, Arlis Mitchell; grandchildren, Karri Lynn (Chris) Findley, Andrea Leigh (Clyde) Abernathy, Nicholas Paul (Dana) Jenkins and Julie Elizabeth (Michael) Schneider; great-grandchildren, Leyden Findley, Lauren Ashley Findley, Landon Austin Findley, Ashlynn Elizabeth Abernathy, Anna Dial Abernathy, Daxon Paul Jenkins and Caroline Elizabeth Schneider; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Nicholas Jenkins, Clyde Abernathy, Michael Schnieder, Chris Findley, Leyden Findley, Landon Findley, Barry Britt, Gary Ragsdale, Jerry Cruse and Phil Cruse. Mrs. Sims is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Sims; father, Edward P. Ragsdale Sr.; mother, Lena Mae Ragsdale; brother, Ed Ragsdale Jr.; sister, Frances Britt. Funeral service for Brian Smith, 55, will be Thursday, May 26, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Dogwood Trails Memorial Gardens. A graveside memorial service for Mrs. Debbie Dee Standridge, 57, will be held on today May 25, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Mrs. Standridge died on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at UAB. She is survived by her husband, Tommy Heard; three daughters, Shana Barnwell, Lori Bentley and Shelly (Donnie) Bushey; two sons, Gene (Katrina) Heard and Rickey Barnwell; nine grandchildren, Hanna and Emily Bentley, Cody McFarlane, Tommy, Zelda and Ethan Bushey, Courtney Renaldo, Brandon Heard and Madison J. Barnwell; two brothers, Rickey (Lynette) Standridge and Michael (Dolly) Standridge; and several nieces and nephews. Steely, Shirley Ann Hood - Nashville  
Shirley Ann Hood Steely passed from this earthly life on March 16, 2016, at her home. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Louis Len. She was survived by daughters, Janey (Jim) Shufelt, of Carlisle, Pa., and Elizabeth (Kelly) Blake, of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Sarah (Phil) George, Lauren Shufelt, Dillon and Annabelle Blake; great-grandchildren, Carter and Henry George. An only child, Shirley is also survived by a sister she chose, Gail Dormon, of Anniston. Shirley was born to the Rev. Robert E. Hood and Irma Childs Hood on November 22, 1934, in Birmingham. She was a graduate of Anniston High School and Judson College. She was a military wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a world traveler, birder, foodie and fan of Auburn football, Duke basketball and Braves baseball. She had a love for learning, a great sense of humor and a memory like no other! The family would like to thank the staff of Mary, Queen of Angels Assisted Living and Sitters and More for their loving care. Funeral Mass and inurnment to be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Anniston, on Friday, May 27, 2016, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Stephenson, Patricia Louise - Piedmont  
Patricia Louise Stephenson, 69, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016, due to illness. She born in Piedmont and went to grade school but was not able to get her high school education. She worked in a cotton mill at a very young age. She met the love of her life, Walter Stephenson, September 19, 1964. They got married and moved to Georgia. On July 21, 1967, she gave birth to her only child, Tony Stephenson. She accrued a position at Southern Ice Cream Kroger division and held a position as a production manager and held that position for 33 years before ultimately being placed on disability. She was a hard worker, idolized by many she impacted so many people and influenced many to strive to do their best at whatever they do. She had two grandchildren, Christopher Stephenson and Emily Stephenson. She was a smoker and when her grandson was born she vowed to quit smoking and kept that vow. Patricia Stephenson believed in education so much that in her 50's she successfully completed the Georgia's GED program. She set the standards on you are never too old to learn. Patricia Stephenson was creative, caring, intelligent, strong willed and a phenomenal wife, mother and grandmother. She will truly be missed but never forgotten. The impacts she has made will live on and her memories will never fade. We all love you Granny. Enjoy paradise for one day we all will be reunited.

Stewart, Marjorie Louise - Southside  
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today, May 28, 2016, at Rainbow Memorial Park for Mrs. Marjorie Louise Stewart, 87, who died on Thursday, May 26, 2016. The Rev. Carrie Jones will officiate. Burial will be at Rainbow Memorial Park. Williams Southside Funeral Home will direct. Mrs. Stewart spent her early adult life in Jacksonville. After being stricken with polio, she went to work at a local bank, then changed jobs to the insurance profession. She overcame all adversities to ensure her ability to raise her two young sons in a Christain way. In 1955, she married A.U. "Red" Stewart Jr. In 1956, the family moved to Gadsden, where she continued to work in the insurance field with Ford Insurance, then later with Red Leach and Sons Insurance. She enjoyed working and meeting people until health issues caused her retirement. She was a member of Southside United Methodist Church for many years before her declining health forced her to stay home. Through family, she kept up on church activities and functions. As a devoted and loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she will be lovingly remembered by those who knew her. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, A.U. "Red" Stewart; mother, Dora Belle Alexander Weaver; father, Arthur Edward Weaver; brother, Walter E. Weaver; son, William W. "Bill" Stewart and great-grandson, Carson Swindall. She is survived by her son, Robert Ray Stewart; daughter-in-law, Gail Stewart; grandchildren, Carol (Dewayne) Swindall, Susan (Brandon) Guffey and Julie (Lewis) Farmer; great-grandchildren, Savannah Adcock, Riley, Mason and Ethan Swindall, Alyssa, Will and Zac Guffey, Emily and Beau Farmer; sisters, Mabel Carlton, Mary Elizabeth (Christopher) Laird and Frances E. Weaver; niece, Mary Vivian West; nephews, Ricky Laird and Robert Laird. The family would like to thank Comfort Care Hospice; aide, Karen and nurse, Sharon for all of their compassionate care. The family will receive friends today from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Williams Southside Funeral Home.
