Dodson, Gussie Lou - Jacksonville  
A graveside service for Gussie Lou Dodson, 77, will be Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Jacksonville with the Rev. Kenneth Phillips officiating, K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directing the service. Mrs. Dodson died Thursday, January 22, 2015, at her daughter's residence in Athens, Alabama. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Dodson Parris and her husband, Michael, of Athens; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer R. Dodson and three daughters, Robin Bollinger, Gaye Dodson Medhus and Sharon Royal. Mrs. Dodson was a native of Cherokee County and a resident of Jacksonville for most of her life. She was a member of West Side Baptist Church and belonged to the Nannie Douthit Chapter OES. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Side Baptist Church, P. O. Fant, Opal Hawkins - Oxford  
Funeral service for Opal Hawkins Fant, 95, of Oxford will be Wednesday, January 28, 2015 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Dr. Stan Albright will officiating. Burial will follow in the Oxford Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Fant passed away on Sunday at her residence. Survivors include her brothers, Billy Hawkins (Wanda), James Hawkins (Nadine); son-in law, Donald Bridges; granddaughters, Kristy Bridges, Fara Bridges, and Ashton Vaugh; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Fant was a lifelong resident of Oxford. She worked at Adelaide Mills for over 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Fant and her daughter, Rebecca Sue Bridges. Gambrel, Loid Dallas - Piedmont  
Funeral service for Loid Dallas Gambrel, 85, will be Sunday, January 25, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Hollis Martin officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Mr. Gambrel passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at his home. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Bowen (Butch), of Weaver; two sons, Jeff Gambrel, of North Carolina and Tim Gambrel (Marybeth,) of Irondale; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Butch Bowen, Joe Wallace, Michael Wallace, Jimmy Wallace, Andrew Gambrel and Dallas Gambrel. Mr. Gambrel was born in Mills, Kentucky on June 6, 1929. He was a former resident of Fenton, Missouri where he retired from the Chrysler Corporation. He has been a resident of Piedmont for the past 27 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, was a member of the United Auto Workers Union and enjoyed gardening. Mr. Gambrel was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Martin Gambrel; a son, Dallas Dewayne Gambrel; his parents, Tom and Jane Gambrel; five brothers, Floyd Gambrel, Robert Gambrel, Troy Smith, Bert Smith and Albert Gambrel; one sister, Bessie Mills. www.thompsonfuneralhomepiedmont.com

Funeral service for Mr. Douglas "Mike" Howard, 72, will be Monday, January 26, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Dan Mattox officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends today, January 25, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Howard was called home by his Lord and Savior on January 22, 2015 with his loving family by his side. Mr. Howard was born in Morisville, N.C. and was raised in Spartanburg, S.C. He called Alexandria and Oxford home for the past 4 years. Mr. Howard was a retired disabled veteran where he proudly served his country. He is survived by his very loving wife of 50 years, Judy Lawson Howard; two sisters, Brenda Copeland and Judy Love, both of S.C.; two daughters, Rhonda Cooley (John) and Jody Howard (Leo); son, Mile Foster, of S.C.; grandchildren, Jeanna Kelley, Tyler Howard, Candace Watson, Kaylee Clayton, Aubrey Carter, Jordyn Searcy and Lauren Cooley; great-grandchildren, Bentley and Brooklyn Watson, Aiden Howard and Kynleigh Clayton. Mr. Howard was preceeded in death by his parents, David Lewis Howard Jr. and Eppie Duckett Howard. Pallbearers will be Leo Searcy, John Cooley, Tyler Howard, Bart Watson, Justin Clayton and Kyle Patrick. Mr. Howard had a strong Christian belief and firmly believed with all his heart that Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior.
