Perry Dewitt Gardner

A Celebration of life service for Mr. Perry Dewitt Gardner, 70, of Oxford will be Sunday, August 10, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Hill Crest Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Reaves and the Rev. Todd Borders officiating with burial following at Oxford Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday Night from 5-8 p.m. at Hill Crest Baptist Church. Perry went to be with the Lord on August 6, 2014, at RMC peacefully with his family by his side. Mr. Gardner is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Janice Gardner; daughters, Carol (Brian) Pike, Cathy (Monroe) Franklin; sons, Alan (Jamie) Gardner and Brian Gardner, all of Oxford; grandchildren, Brittney (Shane) Young, Kaity Wilkins, Kelli (Colby) Hill, Taylor Gardner, Tiffany Harris, Darby Franklin, Michael Doss, Randall (Brandie) Doss; great-grandchildren, Lilly Young, Paisley Young, Hendrix Traywick and Braxton Doss; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Day and Johnette Day; 2 furry pals, Wally and Sam. Pallbearers will be Monroe Franklin, Brian Pike, Shane Young, John Strickland, Gary Sparks and Ricky Howell. Honorary pallbearers will be the Inspiration Sunday School Class, Hill Crest Helping Hands Ministry, Edsell Haynes, Robert Williams, Melvin Ford, Roy Johnson, Joe Gravitt, Melvin Baker, Terry Russell, the Oxford Fire Department and the Oxford EMS. Perry was retired from the Calhoun County Highway Department with 42 years of service. He was a volunteer fire fighter for Oxford with 21years, drove for the Oxford EMS for 12 years, and was a very active member of Hill Crest Baptist church, the Inspiration Sunday School Class and the Helping Hands Ministry. He also loved Fishing, Making sure he had a garden every year, Alabama Football and napping. Mr. Gardner was Preceded in death by his parents, Dewitt and Eula Gardner; sisters, Frances Dempsey, Carolyn Ford, Mirian Turner; brother, Carl Gardner. The family would like to send a special thank you to Doctors Devalentine, Patel, Kamran and Modella. Also a special thanks to the staff for RMC on the 8th floor for the wonderful care given to Perry and his family and to the Alacare Home Health. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Hill Crest Helping Hands Ministry or the Ronald McDonald House in Perry's memory.
