Ruby Cotton Butler Riffle

Anniston - Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Cotton Butler Riffle, 101, of NHC Place, will be Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in Anniston with the Rev Buddy Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. Mrs. Riffle began her earthly journey on March 13, 1912 and it ended on October 2, 2013. One of seven children born to pioneers, W. Rufus and Minnie Hickman Cotton of Elmore County, Mrs. Riffle married and made her home in Anniston for 73 years. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, and actively involved in the Faith Sunday School class and in the Harvest Years senior group. Mrs. Riffle served the Order of the Eastern Star#486 as their pianist for more than 50 years. Later, she became active in the Elizabeth Spearman Chapter #81. Mrs. Riffle was a vital part of the success of Kitchin's Department Store for over 25 years as a department manager and buyer. After retirement, she enjoyed many years of travel, entertaining friends and family and using her gift of music to touch many. Even in this her last year, she played regularly for the resident at NHC Place. The name Ruby suited her perfectly for she was truly a precious jewel to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Newman F. Butler and Alton M. Riffle. Survivors include one daughter, Phoebe Butler Harris (Billy), of Anniston; two sons, Harry D. Butler (Anne), of Rainbow City, and Charles R. Butler (Junelle), of Huntersville, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Sydney Butler Gunter (Randy), Laurie Butler Mayben (Mike), Debbie Butler Pope (Charlie), Mack Newman Butler (Connie), Michele Harris Andrews (Chris), Donna Harris Howle (David), Timothy Harris (Rachel), and Stacey Butler Gipe (Will); and twenty-two great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Galloway, of Opelika and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mack Butler, Timothy Harris, and grandsons by marriage, Randy Gunter, Mike Mayben, Charlie Pope, Chris Andrews, David Howle and Will Gipe. A very special thank you to the staff of NHC Place Assisted Living, NHC Healthcare and the Alacare Hospice for their gracious care and support.
