William Ross Allen

Funeral services for William Ross Allen, 89, of Blue Mountain will be 1 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Gray Brown Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Troy Douthit and the Rev. Robert Ford will officiate. Musicians are Sandra Triplett, Jeanna Agan and Helen Henley. Mr. Allen went home to be with his Lord on Friday morning. He is survived by his sweetheart, Opal "Tiny" Harvey; nephew, Keith Allen; nieces, Joan Allen Feazell, of Anniston and Joyce Allen Sorrell, of Alexander City and great-niece, Robin Renei Bone Lindsey, of Anniston. Nephew and special caregiver Stanley Ray Clark, of DeArmanville. 39 nieces and nephews that were referred to as "his Kids". They referred to him as "The Rock". Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Alice Louise Clark Allen; mother, Lillian Gertrude Sides Allen; father, Morris Sellers Allen; brothers, Lewis Carl Allen, Curtis Franklin Allen, Thomas Pelham Allen, all of Anniston, Russell Adrian Allen, of Douglasville, Georgia; sisters, Helen Velera Allen Randle, Violet Virginia Allen Dempsey, and niece, Betty Dempsey Boone, of Anniston. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Harvey, Tim Agan, David Lindsey, John Triplett, Robert Clark, Johnny Harvey and Coe Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class at Blue Mountain Baptist Church and his and Tiny's "Dance Troupe Gang". Mr. Allen was a WWII Air Force Veteran and retired from Blue Mountain Industries as Plant Accountant and Engineer with over 50 years of dedicated service. He was a 1940 graduate of Anniston High and attended Ayers and Jacksonville College. Mr. Allen was a proud member of Blue Mountain Baptist Church, of Anniston. He was one of the most intelligent, pleasant, wittiest men anyone could ever have the privilege of knowing. Mr. Allen was a staunch supporter of The University of Alabama and an authority on Auburn jokes. He was a constant joy and a gentleman. Schooled in the old world form of chilvary. His last days were passed peacefully in Golden Living Center of Oxford and a special thank you to all that took such excellent care of him. A thank you also to Dr. Ismail, Dr. Niaz, and Dr. Michael Hanna. Mr. Allen was so appreciative of their excellent care. Flowers will be accepted or donations made be made to Blue Mountain Baptist Church or Alacare Hospice. Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in charge of arrangements. (256) 236-3441
