Ranburne - Mr. Bennie C. "Bill" Laney, of Ranburne, Alabama, passed away on April 30, 2012. He was 80. Mr. Laney was born in Graham, Alabama on March 29, 1932 to the late Arlin Kave and Willie Bell Laney, but lived most of his life in Cleburne County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. He retired from Douglas and Lomason in Carrollton, Georgia and was a member and Deacon at Rock Springs Baptist Church and was also a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge. He was loved by his family and will be missed greatly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Roger Laney; his brother, Jimmy Ray Laney; and his sisters, Mildred Harris and Lois Noles. Survivors include his wife, Esther Slaton Laney; his son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Pat Laney, of Ranburne; his grandchildren and their spouses, Brad and Brooke Laney, Dana and Joe Johnson, Jill and Wesley Robinson, Bryant and Beth Turner, and Kelly Murray; his great-grandchildren, Laney and Josie Johnson, Braden and Bryson Laney, and Rylan Robinson; his brothers, Curtis Laney and Clifford Laney; and his sister, Nell Young. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. (Alabama Time) at Rock Springs Baptist Church. The Rev. Gerald Rogers and the Rev. Darryl Robinson will officiate. Music will be provided by Bryant Turner, Kelly Murray, and Brooke Laney. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronald Kimbrell, Jerrell Smith, Scott Smith, Brad Laney, Joe Johnson, and Wesley Robinson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight, May 2, 2012, from 7 until 9 p.m. (Georgia Time). Messages of condolence can be sent to the family at www.rainwaterfuneralhome.com.
