Funeral service for Charlie "C L" Bradford, 86, will be on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at noon at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where the Rev. W. S. Fields is pastor, the Rev. Stevie Houston officiating and the Rev. Jonathan Bates eulogist. Mr. Bradford transitioned from this life to his eternal heavenly home on April 2, 2014, in the comfort of his home with his loved ones by his side. Mr. Bradford was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church. A veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He served as Commander of American Legion Kelley Steadham Post 312 in 1966. He worked timelessly in many capacities with SCLC and received numerous awards, including a Humanitarian Award in 1997 and a Man of Distinction Award in 1999. One of his proudest moments was serving as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s bodyguard on his visits to Anniston. In 1970 he ran for the political office of Associate Commissioner (Southern District) where he advanced as far as the runoff election. His last employment was with Community Action Agency, working as Housing Director for over 20 years until his retirement. Survivors include his wife, of 63 years, Mrs. Lucille Bradford; sons: Foster (Tamara) Kidd, of Kansas City, Kan., retired Major Dennis Bradford, and Glenn (Nella) Bradford, all of Anniston; daughters, Gail Boggs of Chicago, Ill., and Cathryn (George) Bates of Anniston; sisters, Mrs. Earlean Green and Mrs. Cathryn Wood, both of Detroit, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends Anniston Funeral Services "Where service begins and never ends." 256-236-0319
