Anniston - Funeral services for Mr. Earl Walker, 70, of Anniston, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with the Reverend Allen Murphy and the Reverend Ralph Abernathy officiating. Interment will follow at White Plains Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Walker passed away on July 17, 2013 at NE Alabama Regional Medical Center. Mr. Walker honorably served his country in the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Navy. He was a graduate of Jacksonville State University and was employed as a maintenance mechanic at Goodyear Tire and Rubber. He was a member of United Steelworkers Union local 12. He accepted Christ in 1976 under the leadership of the late Reverend Jimmy Nunnelly. Mr. Walker was a Baptist and was a former deacon at First Baptist Church of White Plains. He will be best remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle and was The Rock of the family. Mr. Walker is preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Annie Mae Walker, and his mother and father-in-law, James and Belle Houck. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bonnie Houck Walker, of Anniston; a daughter, Lea Anne Abernathy and her husband, Shane, of Anniston; a grandson, Holden Abernathy; a brother, John Walker and his wife, Edna, of Saks; and nieces and nephews, Ashley Hall, Amber Houck, Baylee Houck, Amanda Tidwell, Amy Trotter, Daniel Young, and Mitch Rogers. Pallbearers will be Casey Hall, Chris Tidwell, Geoffrey Murphy, Mitch Rogers, Daniel Young, John Buchanan, Craig Yates, and Elmer Allen. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the , 1100 Ireland Way, Suite 101, Birmingham, AL 35205 (www.cancer.org) or to caringbridge.org.
