"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness...." . (Romans 4:7,8). Jackie Black completed his race and went to be with the author and finisher of his faith on March 14, 2014. A celebration service will be at 7 pm on Tuesday March 18, 2014 at Harvest Church of God in Anniston with Bishop Jerry Irwin officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Tuesday at the church. Jackie grew up in Harvest Church of God, which was originally 16th Street Church of God. When he was only three years old, his mother would stand him on a piano bench for him to sing in church. That is when his love for praising the Lord was birthed. Jackie served in many church choirs until 1998 when he was blessed to release a CD titled, "This Church God's Building". This opened many doors for Jackie to sing and minister in the southeastern U.S. That love for praising the Lord lasted until his final days when he sang "Amazing Grace" to his family and hospice nurses a couple days before his home going. Jackie was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a special person who had many lifelong friends. He was self-employed for many years in Calhoun and Talladega counties. After high school, Jackie served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a proud founding member of the local Allan Ray Chaffin Detachment 2329. He was also the first chaplain of the detachment. Jackie's warm and vivacious spirit will be greatly missed. Jackie is survived by his devoted wife, Annis Gunter Black; his daughter, Kasey (David) Bullock; his sons, Bryan (April) Black, Shane (Barbara) Gunter, and Jeremy (Melody) Gunter; his grandchildren, Hunter Black, Hannah Black, Maddie Black, Andrea Gunter, Gregory Gunter, Ethan Gunter, Abigail Gunter, Kassidy Thomas, Tripp Armbrust, and Dakota Bullock; his sister, Helen (Pernell) McDaniels; his much loved second mom of over 50 years, Ruth Black; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Clifford Crumley, Lamar Crumley, Hal Pearson, Archie Burroughs, and Jackie's nephews, Mike and Jim Johns. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the UAB Alzheimers Research Center, 1720 7th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35294 or to Sav-A-Life Calhoun County, 13 East 13th Street, Anniston, AL 36201 (www.savalifecalhouncounty.org).
