Funeral services for Mr. Ken Austin,80, of Oxford, will be 12 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Spurlin officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Thursday. Mr. Austin passed away Monday, January 20, 2014, at National Health Care. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ester Bobo Austin; sister, Dean Spurlin; brother, Howell (Mildred) Austin; two sisters-in-law, Bea Gray and Margery Prater; brother-in-law, Henry (Roselyn) Bobo; special nieces, Judy Austin and Pat Bobo Renfroe and caregiver, Julia Rollins. Pallbearers will be Jake Hubbard, Terry McKinney, Riley Austin, Dale Simmons, Guy Sparks, Nathaniel Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be the Malcom Hester Sunday school class at Lakeview Baptist Church. Mr. Austin was a World War II Army veteran and retired from the United States Postal Service after 28 years of service. He also worked at Moore Printing Company and was a member of the Oxford Lions Club. Mr. Austin was a longtime member of Lakeview Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orbie Austin, Bertie Austin and brother, Dennis Austin.
