Service for Alice Barbara Townsend, 83, will be today, June 8, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Hollis Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Townsend passed away Monday, June 6, 2016, at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga. Survivors include two daughters, Kathy McMillian (Chuck) and Susie Wesley, all of Childersburg; five grandchildren, Brandi Bigbee (Sammy), Tiffany Barrow (Jon), Alicia Wesley, Carrie Wesley and Russell Wesley; five great-grandchildren, Bryant Bigbee, Alexis Bigbee, Kayley Bigbee, Adrian Wesley and Jailah Wesley; two great-great-grandchildren, Jackson Bigbee and Aliceanna Bigbee; one sister, Peggy Stabler (Doug); a niece, Darla Dorsey-Rogers (Anthony), and several other nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Mrs. Townsend was a native of Reeltown, Alabama. She met and married the love of her life, Elvin Townsend, in 1948. She was a homemaker and raised her children until she went to work at Bargain Town. After her employment at Bargain Town, she once again resumed her role as a homemaker. She loved to bake, cook and work in her yard and was an avid Alabama football fan. Mrs. Townsend was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin A. Townsend; son, Jerry Townsend; mother, Mary Harper, and grandmother, Bessie Rhodes. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the or to the . www.thompsonfuneralhomepiedmont.com
