Funeral service for Alice Edna Steward, 93, will be today, January 22, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 12 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Steward passed away Friday, January 20, 2017, at Jacksonville RMC. Survivors include children, Vickie Goss (Randy), Marcia Hanson, Greg Steward (Joy) and Lisa Bates, all of Piedmont, Ann Smelser (Bill), of Logansville, Ga. and Milton Steward (Frances), of Piedmont; daughter-in-law, Voncile Steward, of Piedmont; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Bonnie Dobbs, of Anniston, Frances Timmons, of Gulf Breeze, Fla. and Catherine Fowler, of Glendale, Ariz.; one brother, Joe Minton of Ft. Worth, Texas.; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Stevie Goss, Jeremy Goss, Johnny Bain, Chris Hanson, Daniel Steward, Steve Johnson, Chad Steed, Craig Kiker and Dustin Maddox. Mrs. Steward was a resident of Piedmont and was a lifelong member of Piedmont First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Mary Sunday School Class, a member of the Sunshine Club, had been the facilitator of the Mary Jane Whorton WMU Group and served many years at Vacation Bible School. She loved to travel, enjoyed quilting, fishing and doing for others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Milton Steward; daughter, Patricia Steward; son, George Steward; sons-in-law, Edward Hanson, Harold McDonald and Victor Bates; one sister, Jewell Childers; two brothers, Jack Minton and Thomas Minton.
