Allen Guy Turner, 96, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2015, after a few months of illness. He was born in Heflin on March 29, 1919 to Marcus Ward Turner and Minnie Morris Turner. He was 5th of 11 children. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific, he married Dorothy Evelyn Elkins, of Heflin. On January 19, 1944 they began their 71 years of marriage. They raised their family in Heflin and he was active in the Baptist Church as a deacon and Sunday School Director. He served as Boy Scout Master of Troop 201 at Hollis Crossroads for several years and was employed at Fort McClellan until his retirement. He is survived by his wife; six children, Jerry and wife, Meladee, Dana and wife, Kala, Mike and wife, Janet, Tony Turner, Judy Tomlinson and Nancy McManus and husband, Tony. He had 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be Chad Turner, Steven Turner, Jonathan McManus, Joshua McManus, Lee Turner, David Tomlinson, Austin Turner, Greg Lester, Paul Yeoman, Aaron Hawkins, Jake Tucker, Terry Elkins, Clois Moore, Ricky Turner and Lynn Turner. Visitation will be held at Heflin Baptist Church at 1 p.m. and funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2015. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Pleasant Hill Cemetery or to your local charity. The family would like to thank Misty Miller, Carol Cavender and the nurses at New Beacon Hospice for their wonderful care of our dad.
