Anniston - The memorial service for Allie Jean Wilson Thompson, 92, will be today at 5:30 p.m. with her great-grandson, Bray McCormick, officiating at Lloyd's Chapel Baptist Church. Mrs. Thompson passed away on Saturday after a brief illness. Known affectionately as "Mama Jean", she was a native of Rising Fawn, Ga. and resided in Valley Head, Ala. before moving to Anniston to live out her final years with her family. We could fill up this entire paper with her many accomplishments but would rather list the things we adored about her. To name a few, her biscuits would make your knees weak. She could transform an old appliance box and some wallpaper scraps into a magic castle. She was "green" before it was cool. She could give a mean stink-eye. Her handwriting could be considered fine art. She liked her coffee black and scalding hot; anything less was for wimps. At the ripe young age of 65 she decided to go to college. If you were hungry (or even if you weren't) she was going to feed you. She was known for getting tickets for driving too slow, which she proudly did in her red VW bug. She owned her own Santa suit. She was a proper lady, but would laugh devilishly at a dirty joke. Sitting on the porch snapping beans, while she played the accordion, was just a typical day with Mama Jean. To say she was special and that she will be terribly missed is a huge understatement. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Thompson; parents, Walter and Maggie Wilson; siblings, Spencer Wilson, Jimmy Wilson, Jack Wilson and Mary Nell Wilson Smith and her beloved great-grandson, Michael Cody Watson. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Watson, of Anniston, Rebecca Gibbs, of Atlanta Ga.; four grandchildren, Michael Loki Watson, Jennifer Prissy McCormick, Robbie Watson, all of Anniston and Jamie Gibbs Teal, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; 14 great-grandchildren and fourgreat-great-grandchildren.
