Service for Alvin J. Roach Sr., 88, will be Sunday, January 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Garry Brown officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Nances Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12-2 p.m.. Mr. Roach passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014, at RMC Jacksonville. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Juanita Cain Roach; daughter, Dianne Roach Jones, of Piedmont; son, Alvin Jack "Jackie" Roach Jr., of Hollingsworth; five grandchildren, Jason Moore (Anette), Terri Wilson (Joe), Robert Jones, Justin Raoch, and Erica Maxwell (Dyan); five great-grandchildren, Ethan Wilson, Anthony Roach, Addison Wilson, Ajae Roach and Lucas Wilson; one sister, Helen Snider Buttram. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Mr. Roach was a longtime resident of the Hollingsworth Community and was the oldest member of Nances Creek Baptist Church. He was retired from the City of Jacksonville Street Department and was a United States Army WWII veteran with 13 years of service.
