Funeral service for Mrs. Amanda Elizabeth Parris, 91, will be Thursday, August 11, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Asberry Baptist Church with the Rev. William Cain and the Rev. David Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Moore Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church 6-8 this evening. Mrs. Parris died Monday, August 8, 2016, at her residence. She is survived by three daughters, Jewel (Kenneth) Dempsey, of Piedmont, Karen (Rickey) Watson, of Piedmont, and Barbara (Terry) Phillips, of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren, Sonia Pritchett, Carrie Howell, Lee Dempsey, Matt Watson, Amanda Evans, Tammy Couch, Pam Couch and Michael Phillips; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Lee Dempsey, Matt Watson, Clint Pritchett, Jacob Pritchett, Davis Glass and Michael Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Glass, Brayden Dempsey, Parker Dempsey, Aaron Dempsey, Jonathan Evans, Greg Couch, Justin Couch and Tyler Phillips. Mrs. Parris was a member of Tredegar Chapel Congregational Holiness Church. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. Mrs. Parris' family was her life and she enjoyed every minute she spent with them. In her spare time she enjoyed tending to her flowers and picking blackberries. Mrs. Parris retired from Housekeeping at JSU in 1987. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Alacare Hospice of Oxford, especially Kristen Hall, Cassie Rush and Jennifer Salster, and also to Gail Pollard with Home Helpers, in Jacksonville.
