Mrs. Anita Doris (Lightfoot) Norse, 87, formerly of Vermont, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 9, 2016, at the Golden Living Center in Oxford. Mrs. Norse was born in Winhall, Vt. on May 23, 1929, daughter of the late William Lightfoot and the late Doris (Williams) (Lightfoot) Lane. She was retired after working as a C.N.A. and previously worked at GE for 10 years. She was also the original school bus driver from the mountain to Burr and Burton Seminary. She was an accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crafting and doing beadwork. In the mid sixties she was the pioneer "mountain" bus driver to BBS and was also the Stratton Mountain shuttle driver. Those that rode the harrowing ride down the mountain with NO brakes on that RIO will remember the calm, cool and professional manner in which she was able to bring the bus to a stop by guiding the tires into the shoulder ice crust, preventing any injuries or casualties. She was a free spirit and was happiest when traveling on her many adventures. Mrs. Norse is survived by a son, Frank Jones; a daughter, Nadine White Eagle; two sisters, Marion Jenks and Lillian Jenks; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; her beloved Pomeranian, Foxy and her longtime friends, Pat Mosley, Darwin Taylor and Eddie Walker. She was predeceased by brothers, Walter and Stephen Lightfoot. The family would like to send a special thank you to the doctors and nurses who oversaw Anita's care at Golden Living Center in Oxford. Private funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Gray-Brown Service Mortuary, 1329 Wilmer Ave. Anniston, Alabama is in charge of arrangements. The Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect, Conn. is also assisting the family.
