Arvilla (Pete) Vernon began her earthly journey on April 3, 1917, in Pell City. Pete, as she was known by her friends and family, began her heavenly journey on September 6, 2016. Over the last 99 years and 5 months, this amazing woman lived a full and extraordinary life and left her indelible mark on all those that she loved and loved her. After marrying her childhood sweetheart, Tyrus Vernon, they traveled extensively across America before settling in Eulaton. Their wonderful life together in Eulaton would find them faithful to Eulaton United Methodist Church and community needs and activities. Together, Tyrus and Arvilla would birth one of the greatest family trees that would span from Alabama to Utah. Up until the time Heaven's angels escorted her to Heaven, Arvilla was full of life and had a humorous personality. Because of her earthly footprint, it is difficult to put into words now that she is not in our presence, but hopefully the following words will help the family and friends face tomorrow. You can shed tears that she is gone or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back or you can open your eyes and see all she has left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she is gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, or you can do what Arvilla would want - Smile, open your eyes, love, and go on! She is survived by her daughter, Eloise Young; five grandchildren, Royce Young (Dawn), Lynn Thomas (Tim), Wes Young (Kyle), Greg Vernon (Annette) and Dean Vernon (Dana); 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother, Stewart Bowman (Barbara), and sister, Berti Bowman. Mrs. Vernon was preceded in death by her parents, Abner and Zela Bowman; husband, Tyrus E. Vernon; brothers, Laney Bowman, Mel Bowman and Bob Bowman; sisters, Verlie Willingham and Ruth Willingham; son, Charles Vernon; son-in-law, Troy Young; grandchildren, Lee Young and Bart Vernon; great-great-grandson, Jack Hansen. A celebration of Arvilla Vernon's life will be 12 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2016, at the Eulaton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tim Thomas, the Rev. Henry Gibson, Dean Vernon, and Greg Vernon will be officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Royce Young, Wes Young, Steffan Young, Conner Young, Brody Thomas and Brandt Thomas. A special heartfelt thank you to special caretaker, Valda Huddleston and the entire staff of the NHC nursing home. Their care and sincere love for Mrs. Vernon was amazing. You were our extended family and you will always have a special place in our heart. We love you all very much. Online condolences may be made at
