Barbara Ann Barnes, 78, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Tanner Medical Center. She was born December 20, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to the late James William Hanson and Gordie Wiggins Hanson. She graduated from Ranburne High School at the age of fourteen and then went on to receive a degree from Burroughs Business College in Detroit Michigan. She worked for Lockheed in California plotting missile paths before retiring and becoming a homemaker in 1957. She was an outdoors woman who loved fishing and enjoyed listening to country music. She had a passion for reading and spent her down time relaxing with a good book. Barbara had a sweet tooth for lemon pie, which she proclaimed was her absolute favorite. She was a member of Ranburne First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters, (Infant) Shirley Jean Hanson and Geraldine Robinson; and brother, James William "Jimmy" Hanson Jr. Survivors include her daughter, Julie Barnes Sanders, of Wedowee; sisters, Joyce Middlebrooks (Gary), of Carrollton, Joan Harris, of Trickem Valley, Ala., and Pat Calhoun (Jr), of Carrollton; brother, Randy Hanson, of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Mandi Sanders, of Denver, Colo., Emily Sanders, of Los Angeles, Calif., Jay Sanders Active Duty U.S. Coast Guard, and Lacey Sanders, of Wedowee, Ala.; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be today May 24, 2016, at 2 p.m. from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with the Rev. Mike Mallory officiating. Interment will follow in Carrollton City Cemetery. Todd Middlebrooks, Patrick Robinson, Tim Robinson and Michael Carter serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the hour of service. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the physicians and staff at Tanner Medical Center, the staff of Autumn Square facility, and Dr. Lee Stringfellow for the wonderful care that was given to Barbara during her time of sickness.
