Funeral service for Barbara C. Childs, 71, will be Monday, November 3, 2014, at Saint Michael and All Angels Church of Anniston. The service will begin at 6 p.m. with a visitation from 4 p.m. until service time at the church. Mrs. Childs passed away on October 31, 2014 at RMC. In addition to her husband, John Childs and son, John Childs III (Robin), Mrs. Childs is survived by her two sisters, Catherine Simpson, of Dover, Del. and Mary Chlebowski, of Boston, Mass.; a brother, John Chelbowski, of Sun Valley, Idaho. Mrs. Childs served as co-publisher of The Oxford Independent, working with her husband, John A. Childs. Mrs. Childs served in a number of organizations, including the Matrons Study Club, the Junior League, the Anniston Library Board and as a member and later president of the Anniston School Board. She also formerly served as Junior Warden at Grace Episcopal Church, where she led a very successful capital improvements campaign. Before retiring to be a full time mother to her son, John A. Childs III, she enjoyed a career in working a number of legal firms, including Anniston law firm Rutledge, Williams, Williams and Norton. She had earlier worked in similar position with the Washington, D.C. firm of Wilmer, Cutler and Pickering which served as General Counsel to President Jimmy Carter. She had also played a significant role in the campaign of vice-president candidate Edmund Muskie. Mrs. Childs was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister and friend and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
