Mrs. Belva Louise Halpin Canada, age 96, of Anniston, died Monday, 15 Jan 2018. She was born 12 Jan 1922 in Wedowee, Alabama to James D. and Lula Holloway Halpin [deceased]. After marrying Joe Canada on 24 May 1947, she spent her life in Anniston except for the eight years she lived in St. Simons Island, GA to be with her daughter. She was a member of Anniston First United Methodist Church where she was active in the UMW [Nysa Coker Circle]. While raising her children, she worked the information desk at RMC and later volunteered at Stringfellow Hospital. Louise also worked with the Soup Kitchen which her husband co-founded. She loved people - her family, friends, parties and outings - and never met a stranger. Everyday was a new adventure! Reading and 'playing in the dirt' were two of her hobbies… her green thumb followed her wherever she lived. She had a love for traveling, having visited Alaska, Hawaii, the Mediterranean countries, Spain, UK, the Caribbean, and the Philippines where she and her husband did missionary work. She was predeceased by her husband, Joe Canada; son, Jimmy Canada; and daughter, Tricia Canada Thompson; sisters, Jimmie H. Dollar and Lorene H. Crye; and brother, Authur Olen Halpin. A loving family survives to cherish her memory: sister, Joyce Crowe of Ider,Al, and brothers Willie Gay Halpin [Sherma] of Rossville, GA and Ollis Halpin of Macomb Twp, MI and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by Katie, her beloved dog, and Karen, her special friend, plus other friends and loved ones. Services will be held at the Anniston First United Methodist Church in the Acker Chapel at 11 a.m., Thursday, 18 January 2018 with visitation beginning an hour before the service. Interment will be at Edgemont Cemetery. Pastor Dale Clem will conduct the services. Chapel Hill Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Anniston First United Methodist Church. Condolences may be left at
