Funeral service for Benjamin "Cable" Burgess, 39, will be 2 p.m., today, November 27, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Saks with Bro. Jeremy Ford and Dr. John Copeland officiating. Burial will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church. Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Nena Meeks Burgess; daughters, Aspen Burgess and Cara Burgess; parents, Dennis and Sheila Burgess; brother, Cody Burgess (Kris); grandparents, Laquita Pitts, Claude and Barbara McKee; father-in-law, Rocky Meeks (Nancy) mother-in-law, Helen Phillips (Randy); sister-in-law, Wendy Nichols (Daniel); nieces and nephews, Jazlyn Burgess, Alannah Burgess, Kelsey Nichols and Garrison Nichols, and four legged friend, Scooter. Mr. Burgess was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ernest Pitts and Jack Burgess. Pallbearers will be Daniel Nichols, Garrison Nichols, Rusty Arnett, Michael Higgins, Brandon Steel and Seth Burgess. Mr. Burgess graduated from Saks High School where he played football. He worked as a safety director at J&D Burgess Trucking Company for 16 years. He enjoyed playing golf, weightlifting at the gym and spending time at the beach. He was an avid Alabama fan and a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Saks. Mr. Burgess was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, grandson and friend. He will be greatly missed.
