A Celebration of Life for Bernice Powell Trammell, 92, of Anniston, will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2013, in the Sanctuary of the Anniston First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Pete Hawker and the Reverend Amy DeWitte officiating. The family will receive friends in the narthex of the church for one hour prior to the service. Bernice went home to her Lord and Savior on December 19, 2013 at NHC, Anniston. She is survived by her son, Paul Trammell (Edith); her beloved grandchildren, Benjamin Trammell and Anna Trammell; one sister, Bobbie Boullemet (Frank); a special son-in-law, Danny Grizzard. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Trammell; a daughter, Terry Trammell Grizzard; her parents, Mildred and Robert Powell; and two sisters, Ruth Wood and Martha Carr. Bernice was born in Ashland, but lived in Anniston for over 70 years. She worked as a hairdresser for many years. In 1960, she was asked to "fill in" as an educational assistant at First United Methodist Church while they searched for a director. Twenty-six years later, she retired as the Associate in Christian Education. During her tenure at First Church, Bernice completed her degree at Scaritt College in Nashville and was ordained as a Diaconal Minister. She was instrumental in developing many educational programs including the Children's Day Camp at Camp Lee. Bernice loved her God, her family, and her church and was in turn loved by all who knew her. She was a caring, giving individual. Her giving continues after her death as she donated her remains to the UAB School of Medicine. Her family would like to thank Dr. Neal Van Marter and the caring staff of Azalea Way at NHC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Mission Fund at Anniston First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1789, Anniston, AL 36202.
