Funeral service for Mrs. Bertie Lee (Bowman) Bentley, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at NHC Healthcare in Anniston. Mrs. Bentley was born May 2, 1921, in Pell City to William and Zela Bowman. Mrs. Bentley is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bentley Sr.; grandson, John Gilligan; parents; three sisters, and five brothers. Mrs. Bentley is survived by her daughters, Joyce Gilligan, of St. George, Utah, and Anita Carr, of Apple Valley, Minn.; sons, Frank Bentley Jr., of Hoover, and Charles Bentley, of Genesee, Idaho; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bentley was married to the love of her life for 54 years and spent 25 years in many states and overseas, courtesy of the United States Air Force. They both enjoyed their experiences and sampling new cultures and food. Their true love was returning to Alabama and their roots. Gospel music and the Saks Baptist Church were very important to them. Mrs. Bentley sang in the choir for years and had fond memories of singing with her family (Bowman's) when growing up and would sing with family/friends who visited her at NHC until the end of her life. She was an avid fan of Alabama football and during the season would answer her phone with a "Roll Tide". Visitation and memorial service will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 1 p.m. with burial to follow at Forestlawn Gardens.
