Mr. Berton Jackson Austin, 88, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Oxford after a long illness. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and for many years worked as a welder in the Anniston area where his beautiful ornamental iron installations can still be seen. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alma, of Anniston; children, Richard, of Georgia and Kathie Rogers, of Alabama; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Carolyn Brown, of Georgia. He left his body to the UAB Medical School for use in furthering medical education. A remembrance of his life will be held at a later date.
