A celebration of life for Bessie "Ruth" Sprayberry will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary with Rev. Roland Brown officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Mrs. Sprayberry entered into heaven on January 10, 2018, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama. Born October 11, 1923 in Clay County, AL, she was the daughter of the late Robert "Bob" Bishop and Zera Birchfield Bishop. Ruth was the retired owner of and operator at the Jefferson Davis Hotel Beauty Salon in Anniston. She was an active member of Golden Springs Baptist Church. She was an avid Alabama football fan and a lifelong Tide Pride member. Ruth attended countless football games for many years with her beloved husband and by herself after his passing and with numerous friends traveling to all home and away games. When the 2017 season started, she made the statement… "she wanted to see Bama win one more National Championship before she entered heaven." The Lord (along with some luck) granted her wish. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Maxwell "Mac" Sprayberry; brother-in-law, Jack Sprayberry and sister-in-law, Dot Sprayberry; and nephew, Donald Sprayberry. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Larry Sprayberry (Rhonda) of Opelika; niece, Brenda Sprayberry Young of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Bryan Sprayberry of Charlotte, NC, Kelly Sprayberry of Warner Robins, GA, Lori Morgan (Drew) of Opelika; two great-grandchildren, Reid and Jane; three nephews, Doug Jr., Daryl, David, and families; and Donald's wife, Ann. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Golden Springs Baptist Church. Online condolences made at www.graybrown service.com
