Funeral service for Mrs. Betty Brooks Marbut , 85, will be today January 26, 2016 at 12 p.m. at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, with the Rev. Gene Burgess officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Marbut died on Friday, January 22, 2016 at Piedmont Health Care. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Arlon) Sheffield, of Jacksonville; her son, Michael Marbut, of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Jason (Tawana) Couch, Lori (Phillip) Johns and Josh (Brooke) Sheffield; five great-grandchildren, Adalynn Johns, Katie and Emily Sheffield, Kayla Jennings and Stacie Browning; four great-great-grandchildren, Lainy, Drake, Ashton and Ava; one brother, Luther Wayne Brooks, of Huntsville; three nephews, Christopher Brooks, Tim Johnson and Ross Brown; four nieces, Kelly Johnson Haskell, Connie Barker, Jamie Frazier and Marion Brown. Mrs. Marbut was a member at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. She worked for the City of Jacksonville for 30 years. During those 30 years Mrs. Marbut worked with the Gas and Water Department and then became the City Clerk, retiring in 1985. She was a loving mother, grand mama and friend. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, taking care of her home and being outdoors. Mrs. Marbut was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Harold Marbut; her son, Floyd Harold Marbut Jr.; two sisters, Barbara Johnson and Bibb Brown; her great-great-grandson, Taylor Parmer; one niece, Katherine "Kitty" Johnson.
