Service for Betty Jennings Welsh, 85, will be Monday, January 26, 2015, at 11 a.m at Union Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joey Hudgins, the Rev. Michael Burgess and the Rev. Peter Hawker officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home. Mrs. Welsh passed away Friday, January 23, 2015 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Survivors include her daughter, Diane McGinnis (Terry) and son, Dale Welsh (Marshea), both of Rock Run; chosen son, Mickey Crook (Minnie); six grandchildren, Ronnie Welsh, Scott McGinnis (Susan), Mike Welsh (Lara), Russ McGinnis (Jana), Debra Welsh and Mark Welsh (Ann); 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Stephens, Ann Matthews and Carolyn Studdard (Mack); two brothers, Willard Jennings and Forrest "Buck" Jennings (Pat) and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Welsh, Scott McGinnis, Mike Welsh, Russ McGinnis, Deb Welsh, Mark Welsh and Matthew Jennings. Mrs. Welsh was a resident of Rock Run most of her life . She was a long time member of Union Grove United Methodist Church where she was a member of the GLAD Women's group, a member of the choir and had previously worked with the youth. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking for her family, watching sports and fishing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Welsh; parents, Herman and Clara Jennings and brothers Frank Jennings and Jack Jennings. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Union Grove United Methodist Church, 2495 County Road 45, Piedmont, AL 36272.
