The funeral service for Mrs. Betty M. Barnes, 90, will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with the Rev. Ken Ballard officiating. Entombment will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Barnes passed away on February 23, 2017 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Barnes was born in Peterborough, England. She met her husband, Herbert, while he was stationed in England during World War II. After they married, they travelled across the Atlantic on the Queen Mary and moved to Atlanta where they lived for most of their lives and Herbert was the director of the Atlanta Union Mission. After retirement, they moved to Anniston in 1989. She was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Anniston and also attended Church of the Cross. Mrs. Barnes is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Herbert E. Barnes; a daughter, Brenda Barnes; a granddaughter, Kim Edwards, and a son-in-law, Tony Crumbley. She is survived by children, Carol Dutton (Lonnie), of Greenville, S.C., Judy Hansek (Roger), of Anniston, Cherith Maloof, of Atlanta and Herb Barnes, of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Jennifer Foster (Robert), Jeff Hansek (Julie), Tiffany Murdoch (Brian), Marji Young (Michael) and Amy McClesky (Daniel); eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judy Hughes and Mary Spink, both of England. Pallbearers will be Roger Hansek, Jeff Hansek, Drew Foster, Robert Foster, Michael Young and Lonnie Dutton. The family wishes to thank her caregiver, Karen Waites, for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Barnes. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
