Funeral service for Betty Messer, 94, was Monday, August 28, 2017, at 12 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with Mr. Jimmy Kennedy officiating. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Messer passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Piedmont Health Care Center. Survivors include her loving husband of 76 years, Lowell Messer, of Piedmont; one son, Lowell Messer Jr., of Ohatchee; two daughters, Gail Minton (Eddie) and Sheryl Minton, all of Piedmont; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ava Pearl Butler (Herbert), of Lineville and several nieces. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. Mrs. Messer was a long-time resident of Piedmont and a loving wife , mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Piedmont Church of Christ and retired from SCT Yarn with 30 years of service. In earlier years, Mrs. Messer and her husband formed a country band the " Southern Drifters". She was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Messer; grandsons, Gary Wayne Messer and Marty Messer; granddaughter, Sherry Lynn Messer; parents, Jones and Vida Wilson Bailey; one brother, Hoyt Bailey and a sister, Lula Mae Brown.
