Billy Ed Coefield Sr., 75, passed away Wednesday April 6, 2016 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Ala. Visitation will be at Dryden Funeral Home, 1467 Almon Street, Heflin, AL 36264 on Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 5 until 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 also at Dryden Funeral Home with Father John Bagby officiating. Burial will follow at Heflin City Cemetery. The family request that no flowers be given. Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, P.O. Box 596, Heflin, AL 36264, to The Cleburne County High School Athletic Booster Club, 520 Evans Bridge Road, Heflin, AL 36264. Those wishing to sign a guestbook may do so at the funeral home or at drydenfuneralhome.com. Billy Ed was born June 14, 1940 in Heflin, Ala. to Bill and Cora Coefield. He graduated from Cleburne County High School in 1959, earned awards for all state football player and served as the Football team captain for five years, his 8th grade through 12th grade seasons. On December 24, 1959 he married the former Noline Thompson. Billy Ed was a community leader and successful business owner. He worked many years at Buster Miles Chevrolet and owned his own car business, Coefield's Car Center for 25 years, and was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Messiah. He served a term as the Mayor of Heflin, served on the city council, served as president of the Heflin Jaycees, president of The Cleburne County Athletic Booster Club, a school trustee for Cleburne County High School and a member of the vestry at The Episcopal Church of the Messiah. He enjoyed to work, golf and watch his children and grandchildren play ball. Mr. Coefield is survived by his wife, Noline Thompson Coefield; his two sons, Billy Ed Coefield Jr. of Heflin, Scott Coefield (Tammy), of Pelham, Ala.; one daughter, Missy Coefield (Sam Capps), of Heflin. Other family members include Keith Morrow and Krista Coefield, grandchildren include, Mallory Turner, Nikki Coefield Turner (Aaron), Charlsie Coefield, Grace Coefield, Marti Coefield, Will Morrow and Kaci Morrow; surviving sisters and brothers include, Jean Braden (Joe), of Heflin, Katie Flannagan, of Thomaston, Ga., Judy Cleghorn, of Heflin, B.F. Coefield (Jane), of Heflin. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Romelle Bowen, Gertrude Wynn, Mary Elizabeth Coefield, and brother J.C. Coefield. Pallbearers are Eddie Grubbs, Max Payne, Stanly Payne, Charles Wood, Rickey Prichard, Will Morrow, Keith Morrow and Dennis Wisener.
