He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Norene Batey; his beloved brother, Bobby, and his much-loved in-law parents, Alvis A. Hamric and Rubye Hamric. A man of quiet faith, Billy faced the end with uncommon courage and strength. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Jane H. Batey; daughter Dr. Angela Batey (Tami), of Knoxville, Tennessee; son, Patrick (Heather), of Pelham and other extended family. His cats, Racer and Socks, will miss him as well. Pallbearers will be Scott Batey, Michael Boozer, Keener Hudson, Don Sills, Victor Phillips, and Kendel Webb. Honorary pallbearers will be Donita and Gerald Cobb, Jimmy and Annette Cruise, Chandler Phillips, Trent Phillips, and the Oxford High School Class of 1958. Billy was a 1958 graduate of Oxford High School. At the age of 12, he was struck by the beauty and spunk of Jane Hamric and he married his high school sweetheart on August 23, 1959. They were blessed with the birth of a daughter the next year. He worked at A & P grocery store to put Jane through college, then, when Jane graduated and became a high school teacher, he completed his degree in accounting at Jacksonville State University. He worked as an accountant at FMC Corporation for virtually his entire career. Billy had a quick wit and ready smile. He loved the outdoors, and in his younger days, especially enjoyed showing off his skills as a water skier, custom making his own slalom skies. He was also a lover of all things Auburn. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Billy G. Batey Memorial Concert will be received by the Oxford Performing Arts Center, PO Box 3383, Oxford, Alabama, 36203. Miller Funeral Home 256-831-4611
