Graveside service with military honors for SFC (Ret) Billy Ray Lane, 75, was held Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 4 p.m. at Goshen Cemetery with the Rev. Hollis Martin officiating and Thompson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Lane passed away January 16, 2015 at Nolan Hospital in Anniston. Survivors include one brother, Lester Lane, of Piedmont; one son, Billy Ray Lane Jr. (Barbara), of Piedmont; six nieces and nephews, Lisa Lane and Edmond Lane Jr. (Susan), all of Birmingham, John Paul Lane, Amanda Griffin, Jason Lane and David Lane, all of Piedmont; many great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be nephews. Mr. Lane was a native of Piedmont and was retired from the United States Army with over 29 years of service to his county. He served as a Clinical Specialist and a Medical Specialist. He received a Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (3 Campaigns) and Expert (Rifle M-16).
