Funeral service for Bishop Darren Keith Ackles, 50, will be on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at noon at the Spring Hill Baptist Church, Lineville. Interment will follow in Fresh Oil Ministry Cemetery. Bishop Ackles passed away on May 11, 2017 at Welstar Douglas Hospital. Bishop Ackles' remains will arrive at the church one hour prior to his service. He began preaching at the age of 12, graduated from Lineville High School, Southern Union State Community College and Talladega College. He was founder of New Direction Ministries, Talladega, Fresh Oil Ministries, Lineville, and Founder/Senior Pastor of New Direction Ministries, Atlanta, Ga. He had been employed at Alabama Power for over 29 years. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Ackles; children, Princess Ackles and Darren K. Ackles Jr.; stepchildren, Trameka (Brian) Woods and Dominque (James) Dixon; grandchildren, Zyla, London, Landon and Brian Jr.; godson, Javon Robert Danial; siblings, Bobby (Sherlene) Ackles, Gary Ackles, Steve Ackles, Shunda Williams, Brenda (James) Brown, Shelia Ackles and Kim Ackles; other relatives and friends.
