Dr. Bob Hanvey was called home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 13, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Hanvey; his daughter and her husband, Kathy and Don Gilliland; two grandsons, Joshua and Jonathan Gilliland; his sister, Vicky Mazur; several nieces and nephews. Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst, Dr. Hanvey will be most remembered for pouring himself into the community for the sake of Jesus Christ. He was also proud of having served his country in the U.S. Army's 2nd Infantry Division at Fort Benning, Georgia as well as working on the Apollo/Saturn V space program with The Boeing Company before being called by God into the ministry. Dr. Hanvey's family invites friends and neighbors to a visitation this evening from 4 until time of memorial service at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Gardens Cemetery in Anniston, Dr. Hanvey's hometown, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church, Hazlehurst, or to the Baptist Children's Village.
