Funeral service for Bobby Ray Whatley Sr., 79, of Oxford will be Friday, April 17, 2015, 11 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. The Rev. John White and the Rev. Tommy Whatley will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends on today from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Whatley passed away on Wednesday at his residence. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Chauncey Whatley; grandchildren, Anna Whatley , Justin Whatley; brothers, Joe Whatley (Clyde), Tommy Whatley (Rosalyn); sister, Mackie Cummings; brother-in-law, Gene Chauncey (Marie); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Charles Stubbs, Scotty Hollon, Tommy Howle, Tommy O'Dell, Harold Mooneyham, Clarence Baughn and Leroy Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Guy's Guys Sunday School Class Meadowbrook Baptist Church and the Lincoln High School Class of 1955. Mr. Whatley was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church. Mr. Whatley was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Whatley Jr.; parents, Rev. Talmadge and Eunice Whatley; sisters, Nan Carlson; brothers-in-law, Bobby Cummings and Jack Carlson. Mr. Whatley retired from Anniston Army Depot in 1988 after 33 years of service. Mr. Whatley worked part time for the City of Oxford at the Friendship Community Center for several years. Mr. Whatley coached boys baskeball and baseball for many years. Later in life he enjoyed playingand coaching Men's slow pitch softball at Oxford Lake.
