A funeral service for Brian Alan Onkst, 38, will be Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, June 27, 2016, from 5 - 8 p.m. Mr. Onkst passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016, after battling complications from diabetes and renal failure for many years. He is survived by his wife, Paitra Economou Onkst of Jacksonville; two sons, Guy Alexander Onkst and Jackson Christopher Onkst both of Jacksonville; his parents, Jeffrey and Sharon Onkst of Jacksonville; sister, Tiffany (Mark) Onkst Mancipínto of Jacksonville; brother, Bradley (Lindsay) Onkst of Indianapolis, Ind.; two nieces, Laura McCullar and Emily Reynolds; five nephews, Blake Mancipínto, Michael McCullar, Tobias Euchner, Owen Reynolds and Jacob Reynolds-Economou. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Brunner and Bradley Onkst. Brian attended Bloomington North High School where he played JV and Varsity baseball. After graduating in 1995, Brian attended the University of Kentucky and then went on to attend Jacksonville State University. He earned his BS degree in Criminal Justice from JSU in 2014 and was named to the Dean's List and President's List many times. Brian was a loving husband, father, son and a friend to all who knew him. He faced many challenges throughout his life and fought for what he knew and loved. No matter what the adversity, Brian was brave and a true fighter. He never gave up. Brian will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jackson S. and Mary J. Onkst and Guy Edward and Helen Pauline Johnson. Online condolences to the family at K. L.
