Mr. Butler W. Green, 87, passed away August 10, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness. Memorial service will be held Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at the chapel of K.L. Brown Memory Chapel. The Reverend Rodney Cox will officiate. His family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Green was a native of the Williams Community and a longtime resident of Anniston. He graduated from Jacksonville High School, and attended Jacksonville State University where he played basketball. He played basketball and graduated from API, known today as Auburn University, in 1952. Immediately following graduation he went into the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. Then, after 45 years of service, he retired as a Lt. Colonel. He worked with The Department of Alabama Public Health where he gave 32 years of service. For approximately 20 years, he was an environmentalist with the Calhoun County Commission where his chief duties were to over see the land field. Throughout his career, farming and agriculture were his passion. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Shirley Green; daughters, Elizabeth Green, Emily Green (David Holt); grandchildren, Benjamin Butler Green and Kayden Green; sister, Edith Yake; brothers, E.L. Green, Steve Green and a host of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, Butler would like you to take a moment to reflect about the importance of our environment, and do something about it.
